True health starts within

True health can be difficult to define. With so much information out there, and so many opinions, it’s easy to get lost in the chatter.

Here’s how I define health (right now, at least.)

I define true and vibrant health as balance.

Simple as that. True health, to me is being balanced mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and physically.

Eating a nutritious diet is important, but it’s not the only aspect to attaining a healthy lifestyle.

Feeding our bodies proper nutrition is important, but what we feed our mind is the basis of all health, (or so I think.)

The mind is where all decisions and actions begin.

In our thoughts.

Thoughts seem so innocent, don’t they?

They come and go. We believe the thoughts we want to and discard all the rest. We hold on to thoughts that no longer serve us.

But one thing I’ve come to learn over time is that thoughts are things. I didn’t grow up learning that. That the thoughts we think become our beliefs, that become our actions, that become our reality.

I didn’t know this until I became aware of what was going on within me. Within my mind. Being present and taking note of what’s happening on a deep, internal level.

I’ve come to realize that what I’m experiencing on the outside, is a direct reflection of what’s going on on the inside.

Chaos, love, hate, compassion, fear, peace, tranquility. All these feelings and emotions begin in my mind.

Thoughts I have believed (on purpose, or on accident) have becaome my reality.

So here are a few things that have been helpful (for me) in my effort to achieve real and lasting health:

    1. I’ve had to decide that I do not want to sabotage my health or my life anymore. (No more emotional eating.)

    2. I’ve had to become aware of my thoughts.

    3. I’ve had to recognize the direct influence my thoughts play in my emotional state, which affects the decisions I make in my health (and in my life.)

Only then can I create the life I want.


So my challenge to you (and myself!) is this:

Take note to what’s going on in your mind. What are your emotions telling you?

What do you need to let go of? What do you need to start believing?

Be present with yourself. And listen.

You might be surprised with what comes up for you.
